In Kenya today, 1 in 3 women is at risk of facing sexual or gender-based violence (GBV). These are not just numbers — they represent real people, real trauma, and a silent epidemic that continues to claim lives in homes, streets, schools, and workplaces across the country.
In this powerful episode of Alfa Documentaries, we journey into the heart of this crisis, highlighting the voices of survivors, frontline activists, and community leaders who refuse to stay silent. Through raw, on-the-ground storytelling in areas like Kibera, Thee Alfa House exposes the lived reality behind the statistics.
🔺 A Crisis That Cannot Be Ignored
Despite widespread awareness campaigns and international attention, Gender-Based Violence remains deeply entrenched in Kenyan society. From intimate partner abuse to public harassment and femicide, the violations continue with chilling frequency.
Activist Njeri Migwi is among the many women demanding justice and protection for Kenya’s daughters, sisters, and mothers. “The system is broken,” she says. “And it’s the women who pay the price.”
🏛️ A Government Response: Too Little, Too Late?
In January 2025, President William Ruto unveiled a 42-member taskforce on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, backed with a Ksh. 100 million budget. While the move was welcomed by some, others questioned its timing, size, and the government’s true commitment to reform.
Can bureaucracy solve what is deeply cultural, emotional, and systemic? Or will this be another initiative that fades without meaningful action?

Through interviews and field footage, this documentary amplifies the voices that are too often silenced — women who have survived horrific abuse, grassroots organizers who work in dangerous conditions, and youth activists pushing for education, justice, and reform.
